Public Relations Do's & Don'ts, From Online Marketing Companies

By Rob Sutter

If there's one thing that can be said about online marketing companies, it's that they can provide a bevy of services. One of the most important, in this day and age, would have to be public relations. Why is it that such a service has become so noteworthy, you may wonder? If you would like to know what the reasons for this are, in addition to how you can help yourself on the PR front, here are a few do's & don'ts you should know.

DO focus on networking. If you want to know why the Internet has become such a valuable tool, all you have to do is look at how it's given us the ability to network. We can connect with so many people around the world, but those who are focused on public relations should reach out to those in their industries. By doing so, you stand a greater chance of getting your name out there. Authorities like fishbat.com would be hard-pressed to disagree.

DON'T react harshly to criticism. The more time that you spend online and in the public eye, the more open you become to criticism. Instead of reacting to such comments in harsh ways, try to understand what they're trying to say. Some of the might be focused on specific products, while others might want to air their grievances about customer service. Whatever the case may be, stay calm and react to these messages in a professional way.

DO set goals for yourself. The best public relations plans are those which feature clear goals, which should be outlined at the onset. Simply put, what are you looking to accomplish on the PR front? Are you trying to sell more products? Is it your public image that you're trying to maintain or even improve? Whatever the case may be, specific goals should be set in place before you put your plans into motion.

DON'T forget to look at other avenues. As the Internet grows, so will the various platforms that people use for communications. It seems like now, more than ever before, podcasts have become popular across a number of interests. What about more niche platforms like Periscope or Vine? By staying up-to-date with what's popular on the social front, you will be able to further aid yourself in the field of public relations as well.
