Why The Google Updates "panda" Filter Impacts 7.5 Percent Of All Search Results

By David John

There have been many updates in the last few years with Google attempting to prevent individuals that are gaining their search engine algorithms to find higher positionings on the web. As we all know, those that have larger sites, that are multimillion dollar companies, do not have to worry about competing in such a way, or adapting their strategies because they simply do not apply to them. As for the little guy, or entrepreneurs trying to stake their claim on the Internet, we always have to be on the lookout for what these updates do to us. This latest update with the Google panda filter has purportedly affected 7.5% of all search results. Let's take a look at what websites have been affected, and how you can bypass yet another attempt of Google to undermine most Internet marketers today.

What Is Google Panda?

The panda update is specifically targeting websites and blogs that offer very little value. These are sites that have just a couple pages of content, and are not updated on a regular basis. The structure of the site is also problematic. If it is easy to navigate, designed with silos or categories in mind, this will also look good in the eyes of Google and this latest update that has occurred. If your websites are primarily updated with content that is either 100% unique, or is curated content providing useful information, you will be able to find your way to the top of the search engine listings, and even benefit from updates that eliminate trash websites from the serps.

How To Fight The Google Panda Updates

To make sure that the Google Panda updates now and in the future do not affect your websites, you need to do three specific things. One, make sure your website has a specific structure, divided up into categories in which only topics related to that category are placed. Second, unique content, or what is called curated content, should be used at all times. Never use private label rights articles as this will be a red flag that will cause Google to lower your rankings. Finally, update regularly, using pertinent topics that not only apply to your website, but popular news stories about the things you're website represents. All of this will show Google that you are a live website, trying your best to stay up to date, and by doing this consistently, you will most likely improve your rankings with every update that occurs.

The Panda filter is essentially an algorithm that is designed to hunt down and find websites that have very little content or structured value. By structured value we are referencing a website that has categories for all of its content, which is also referred to as a silo structure. This is something that shows Google that you are trying to properly organize the content that you are posting on a regular basis. As long as you are making posts regularly, and properly categorizing the articles that you add to your website, you will survive any Google Panda filter update.
